This weekend, Waagplein turns into Alkmaar’s coziest little winter village—perfect for last-minute Christmas market, a hot drink in hand.
Expect rows of festive stalls filled with gift ideas, ornaments, candles, winter knits, local treats, and small handmade finds. Between browsing and grazing, there’s plenty to keep the mood festive: seasonal music, cheerful performers, and kid-friendly activities.
And yes: Santa drops by between 12:00 and 15:00, which is basically guaranteed to upgrade the atmosphere.
If you’re around the city on Saturday 20 December, Alkmaar’s broader Christmas programming also includes extra “winter-in-the-streets” fun: fire bowls on Waagplein, singer-songwriters in the shopping streets, a big open-air sing-along, a Santa selfie spot, a live ice sculpture, and a kids’ Christmas circus.
